Some Practical Cake Decorating Tips And Advice

Have you ever seen one of those cakes, after it was decorated, that looked so good that it was a shame to cut it up and eat it? You just had to run to get your camera to take a photo of it. Don’t you wish you could decorate cakes that looked THAT good? Well, fear not. These simple tips, while they won’t make you a master cake decorator, will get you on your way.

The hardest thing, for most people anyway, is coming up with a design idea. Sure, you could go to the store and get one of those kits complete with design and tools, but why not just do this? Look around your home for objects that might lend themselves to being used as inspiration for an idea. You can get these design ideas from fine China, linens, drapes are just about anything. Sometimes just the flower design on a sheet or curtain will be all you need to come up with a great cake design. Use your imagination. You do have one after all.

Next problem is where to get all the fancy tools that you need. Well, thanks to the Internet, you don’t even have to leave your home anymore. You can get just about any cake decorating tool in existence online, from spatulas to pans to icing tips. You can buy these tools in kits (I’ve seen kits of up to 50 pieces) or you can buy them separately depending on your needs. Because there is no cost associated with hiring sales people, you can probably find these items cheaper than if you go to your local store.

Finally, make sure that you have everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING that you need BEFORE you actually start working on your cake. The last thing that you want is to go reaching for a tool to start applying that pretty rose colored design only to find out that it didn’t come in the kit that you bought and you didn’t purchase it separately either. So do an inventory check before you even toss that thing in the oven. This way, if you’re missing something, you can run out and get it BEFORE the horses are out fo the barn and you can’t get them back in.

What You Need To Know About Cake Decorating

Ah, the joys of cake decorating. The pros make it look so easy. Truth is, decorating a cake is an art and one that isn’t easily mastered. Sure, anybody can toss a glob of frosting on a cake but the true artist turns that cake into a visual masterpiece. Well, if you’re one of those aspiring cake decorating artists, this article should get you on your way to decorating cakes that look good enough not to want to eat.

At the very top of the list, and I do mean the VERY top, is making sure that you have the right tools for the job. You wouldn’t try to hammer a nail into a wall with a screwdriver would you? (Though I have seen many people try) It is absolutely critical that you have the right tools. What are they? Well, it all depends on what you’re decorating. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, most supplies come in kits and not all kits are going to do all jobs.

For example, let’s say you want to have some writing on your cake. You’re going to probably need some ready to use glitter piping gel. Some stencils will probably come in handy as well. What if you want to make a layer cake? Well, you’re going to need a couple of cake pans. Make sure they are both the same size. Cake pans and very sharp knives are probably the two things you’re not going to be able to live without if you’re going to do a proper job on your cake decorating.

Aside from the right tools, you want to make sure that you have a specific idea in mind before you even begin. The last thing you want to do is just start slapping stuff on your cake. Trust me, it won’t come out very good unless you are a natural artist. To this end, having a cake decorating design ready made is going to help a lot. Fortunately, there are tons of kits with ready made designs that you can purchase at any specialty store or even online. It’s not a crime to use a pre-made design. With so many to choose from, it’s unlikely that your guests will have seen yours.

Want To Decorate Cakes Like A Pro? Read This!

Oh how we envy those cakes that just make us want to run and get the old Kodak or whatever camera we happen to have laying around the house. We imagine being able to come up with decorating ideas like that. Well, it’s easier than you think. With a few simple tricks, you TOO can be decorating cakes just like a pro. Keep reading to learn some really cool tips.

One of the keys to a really great looking cake is the cake icer tip. I strongly recommend getting a number 789 icer tip. You absolutely cannot tell the difference between a cake YOU decorated with this tip from a cake decorated by a pro. Yes, you need a steady hand too, but the tip is going to make all the difference in the world.

What about those cupcakes that seem to spiral up to the clouds? You now the kind I’m talking about. They are really so easy to make. All you need to do is get yourself a star decorating tip. Hold it about a quarter inch above the cupcake at a 90 degree angle to the cupcake surface. Start at the outer edge and pipe out some icing all around the outer edge. Then, simply pull the tip away, bring it inside the outer circle and pipe another circle inside the outer one. If you like, you can pipe another circle inside the inner one if there’s room. I told you…simple.

What if you have a pattern that you want to use for your cake? This is so simple that it’s a joke. What you do is actually ice the pattern itself. Put the pattern on the back of a cookie sheet and start piping the icing onto it, making sure you put a disposable decorating bag over it first. Then, all you need to do is turn the bag over, with the design on it, and place it over your cake. When you’re done, lift the bag off the cake and the design will be transferred. Yes, it’s THAT simple.

These are just a few of the many tips that you can use to make you look like a professional cake decorator. If you’d like more great cake decorating tips, in my signature you’ll find a link to a great resource that will give you all the cake decorating tips that you could possibly want.

You don’t have to be a pro to decorate like a pro.

Review Of The Art Of Cake Decorating

Okay, let me make one thing perfectly clear about this book. It is NOT a book on baking. You need to know how to create a finished baked cake before you can make use of this book. It will ONLY show you how to decorate your cake after it is baked. Okay, now that we have that out of the way, let’s get down to how good this book REALLY is.

If you’ve never done any cake decorating at all, then this book is excellent. You will get all the basic tips that you need, and then some, to decorate cakes that people will actually want to take pictures of. Truth is, it’s really not that hard. All you need is the right tools, a steady hand and some design tips. This book covers all but the steady hand. That, you’re going to have to bring yourself.

What I really like about this book is that it goes beyond just decorating. For example, the author reveals the best places to get decorating supplies. This info is priceless. She also goes over all the different types of icings you can use. She even goes over how to make sugar free icing for those who have dietary restrictions.

And if you have any doubts that this info will actually help you decorate cakes, on her web page you will find photos from people who have used her instruction to decorate their own cakes. I will let the photos and testimonials speak for themselves. They are absolutely amazing.

In addition to all you’ll learn about cake decorating, she also includes tons of bonuses on baking cookies, candy and other desserts. Honestly, you’d expect to have to pay over $100 for all of this information. The price, not even close to it. It truly is an excellent value and a great easy to follow book on cake decorating.
